My Story

I am the political reporter at WJTV 12 News. I cover the statehouse and elections.

I've taken a deeper look into the Mississippi Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). My in-depth coverage answered how the system accumulated the debt. A large part stems back to the 1980s and 90s, when lawmakers promised benefits without paying for them. I explained the funding solutions financial experts presented to lawmakers to pay down the almost $26 billion liability. Heard first-hand from retirees and new retirees who are concerned that their retirement benefits may not be available in the future.

Some of my coverage focused on lawmakers passing a tax reform bill to phase out the state's income tax, lower the grocery tax, and raise the gas tax.

I became the political reporter after covering part of the 2025 legislative session.

Before becoming the political reporter, I was a general assignment reporter since I started in Jackson, Mississippi, in July 2023. I covered a wide array of stories, including breaking news, in-depth, politics, sports, and weather.

In May of 2024, I put together in-depth reports on the state of the Mississippi economy, looking at where the jobs are.

The City of Jackson found themselves in a garbage debacle after not getting a garbage contract signed in April 2023, which left residents without garbage collection for 17 days. I started following the story when I got to WJTV while the city was in the middle of an emergency contract and covered it until the city council voted on a new contract in March.

I covered the major Hinds County ransomware attack, not long after starting at WJTV. I covered this for almost three weeks until Hinds County's services were restored. This also prevented residents from renewing car tags and other services.

I'm from Weatherford, Texas, and obtained a Master of Arts in Journalism from Ole Miss. My experiences at Ole Miss shaped me into a well-rounded journalist over two years. Through various opportunities, I gained invaluable experience in multimedia, including associate producing for Ole Miss baseball and softball with our SEC Network crew, writing print and video stories, and managing multiple social media channels. Additionally, I covered Ole Miss athletics as a sports reporter. I also traveled to Italy as a graduate assistant with the School of Journalism and New Media.
